Speaking of luxury, wherever and whatever, at one point will have to comeback to the accessories and jewelries. And that is what John Hardy Jewelry is about. Their artists honoring the original craft through the perfection of modern design, creating one of a kind masterpiece. But they did not stop there. No, they went above and beyond. They prove that luxury could walk hand-in-hand with environmental preservation and social responsibility.

John Hardy first visit to Bali in 1970s is the start of this sustainability brand. An artist originally from Canada was enchanted with ‘the island of gods’ beauty. Felt that his passion is align with the island rhythmic and local artisan visions, he established an authentic collective community business with local artisans and until now, the company has remain passionately committed to the community, artisans and sustainability.

What’s so difference with John Hardy Workshop in Ubud?

Built in an area of 400 acres – this including farms and rice fields, all the magic tricks that produces these sophisticated beauties and elegance are happening here. From the administrative office, designers base-camp to the workshop, all the buildings utilizing only low impacts materials such as bamboo, adobe and thatched roofs. John’s visions on sustainable businesses come to life here.

The visionary concept that John has brings the company to set luncheon open for their visitors, with an appointment in advance. The idea is to share the concept of environment friendly business and of course the exposure + promotion by their guests.

I had the chance to sit together with John Hardy Workshop Bali management on the table last December with other 30s tourism related colleagues within the compound.

Reflecting to the title of this post, Long Table, John Hardy Workshop Bali set up a table for approximately 40 persons that day. The open air bale – Balinese traditional pavilion – made out of bamboo is our roof that afternoon. The table was set with green decoration of coconut leaves weaves. The bright yellow color of Bali marigolds make the scene more traditional. The Christmas Tree of marigolds  on the table’s end shows gives the vibe of a tropical festive season ambiance.

Sat down the management team,we were told that the food of their regular long table comes from the same kitchen that prepares daily lunch for their over 700 employees, all from nearby villages. The company takes local wisdom like no other by providing relaxing places for employees to rest and relax within the compound, including the famous bales for sleeping. The friendly and family oriented work atmosphere is so obvious here, reflecting on how easily you blend with the hosts.

In the end, the lunch is like a big family gathering with stories and laughter from family members that are finally home.
